Kelly and I could not wait for the new season to start. The time in between seasons feels like an eternity to us, even with workshops and other events going on. So we were giddy with excitement when we walked in the studio yesterday for Choreographer Auditions.
The schedule was packed without a minute to spare for walk-ins. (Luckily we didn't have any so we didn't have to turn anyone away!) There were a lot of familiar faces, but also a good amount of new dancers who had just recently discovered OnStage and a few former members who had been away for a season or two but had returned to audition choreography!
Our main concern at auditions is making sure everyone feels comfortable. We know that most dancers come in feeling very nervous and anxious about showing their work. It takes a lot to put yourself out there. Kelly and I have been in that position many times before so we completely understand how it feels. We're probably the two least intimidating people in the world though, so I don't think we scared anyone off!
After three hours of auditions, Kelly and I hit the floor (literally - we never make tough decisions while sitting in chairs) and spread all of the paperwork we collected in front of us. Sprawled out on the marley dance floor, we discussed, considered and debated and made our final decisions on what our next season would look like.
Season Four will feature Modern, Contemporary, Ballet and Lyrical (and hybrid combinations of those styles), Hip Hop, Lyrical Hip Hop, Jazz, Broadway Jazz and Tap. We are also thrilled to have Bellydancing and Bollywood back this season. And for the first time ever, we have a Step piece! We know you all want to get in on this - so please join us this Sunday for our Level Placement Auditions for Dancers and Choreographer Showcase. See you at the studio!
