Before I can explain the exciting, nerve-wracking process of waiting, waiting, waiting to see which pieces I am lucky enough to be a part of, I think it is important to give you a small glimpse into what the audition process looked like for me.
About a year ago, I was doing some Facebook creeping (let's be serious, it is a favorite pass time for us all) and stumbled upon an old friend and dance teammate from college (cough Emily Keefe cough). What did I see on this particular friend's page? Photos that were most definitely from a dance team of some sort. How did I respond? Immediately message to say I've missed you, let's get together, and are you dancing? Where are you dancing? Can I be a part of this?
Thanks to this lovely friend, I came to know OnStage Dance Company. I attended classes and almost made it through Season Seven auditions before realizing I had a conflict with the performance date and had to excuse myself before I could finish.
This year it was going to be different. Every mandatory date in my calendar, ready to go. The audition process was fun. I got to meet great new people, dance some wonderful choreography and as the hours passed slowly realized there was no way I would be able to walk the next day. After seeing my ranking, the excitement continued to build as I got to watch the AMAZING pieces that I might get to dance.
The amount of talent and bravery displayed by each and every choreographer was astounding. Seeing even one minute of each piece made me even more excited to be a part of this and very confident in demanding everyone I know come to the show because I can GUARANTEE it will be thoroughly entertaining.
After ranking the pieces I was hoping to be a part of, I knew I needed to keep myself busy. First I had a slice of pizza. Then I got frozen yogurt. Then I continued to talk about my day without end. I showed my boyfriend all of the audition pieces. Then continued to listen to the songs we danced to over and over. Then I went grocery shopping, I baked, I showered, I did laundry, I cleaned my apartment, I cooked. After all of this I looked at the clock!! It was 8:00. I continued to get ready and left my apartment.
On the way to meet my friend out for her birthday, my car died. I was extremely frustrated. This day had been perfect!! I didn’t want anything to spoil it. As I sat waiting for AAA, I checked my phone. I checked my phone again. Then I saw it. The email letting me know that I could be a part of four pieces!! This news ensured that my day ended on a positive note.
I cannot put into words how excited I am to get to start rehearsals. I know that being a part of this company will be so much more than just dancing. I will become a part of a new community and new family. I cannot wait to learn from so many incredible dancers and people. I cannot wait to see what the next few weeks have in store!
