OnStage Dance Company is accepting applications for experienced and emerging choreographers to create new work for our Season 28 Performance.
Pieces can be performed live for the stage, or site-specific dance for film.
Live Performance: Selected dances will be performed at our Season 28 Performance at the Boston University Dance Theater.
Filmed Project: Selected dances, created for "site specific" locations and choreographed for film, will be filmed during the season and screened during our live performance
We are open to all dance styles. Our performances feature a wide range including Jazz, Modern, Tap, Contemporary, Musical Theater and Pop/Commercial. Past seasons have also included work in Hip Hop, Ballet, Poi, Step, Hoop, Bollywood, and Latin styles. If the style is outside of our audition rubric, casting will be determined by the director, in consultation with the choreographer.
To be considered, dance pieces must be:
3:00-4:30 in length
completely original work by the choreographer who is applying
new work that has not been performed/produced before
set to music that does NOT include obscenities, racist, misogynistic, homophobic or otherwise offensive lyrics.
designed for 5-14 dancers. No solos, duos, trios.
What is provided? If selected, choreographers are provided with:
a cast of dancers
rehearsal space**
costumes
lighting designer
professional photographer
professional videographer/editor
two theater performances
**Rehearsals are structured as: 60 minute rehearsals for 10 weeks for live pieces, and 90 minute rehearsals for 6 weeks for dance films. Dance films are screened during our theater performances.
What should I prepare for my Choreographer Audition?
Audition slots will be approximately 30 minutes.
You will be asked to perform 45-60 seconds of choreography at the audition.

If you are new to the company, it is recommended you attend one of our Info Sessions!
Season 28 rehearsals will be held from April 13 - June 18. Exact schedule will depend on which pieces you participate in. In addition to rehearsals, attendance for the following dates are mandatory in order to participate:
Company Meeting + Showcase: Sunday, April 6th at 12pm
Tech Rehearsal: Thursday, June 19 (starting 5:30pm)
Dress Rehearsal: Friday, June 20 (starting 5:30pm)
Show Day: Saturday, June 21 (all day)**
** If you plan to ONLY participate in filmed pieces, you are not required to attend our show weekend June 21, unless you wish to perform in our finale dance.
