PLUTO RETURN ● Free Falling Home Choreography by Johnny Blazes Dancers: Ari Green, Arim Choi Perrachione, Atara Rich-Shea, Carolyn Sayre, Johnny Blazes, Lee Vincent, Lianne Ratzersdorfer, R Feynman, Samantha Caprino This piece was created in a small space with a lot of dancers: a choreographic puzzle! How do we freefall, roll, fly, and express our joy in a world that tries to confine us? We dance to experience the wonder of taking up space, in all our dimensions. Music: "Hypnotized" by Purple Disco Machine and Sophie and the Giants Instagram @johnnyblazes
SHIRIN KUPPUSAMY ● Dholida Choreography and Performance by Shirin Kuppusamy This piece is an Indian folk fusion dance inspired by Garba/Raas styles with small hints of Bollywood and the classical North Indian dance style Kathak. Traditionally this dance form is performed in large groups or pairs with lots of traveling movements during the Navratri festival. Shirin was excited to retain core elements of the style - such as moving in the round - while challenging herself to adapt the dance form to solo performance. This was especially resonant to her as she reflected on how Covid changed her participation in Navratri festivities, and also took to represent her journey to find joy and connection in solitude in the past years post lockdown.
